Italian telcos launch IPTV website
Italian telcos Telecom Italia, Fastweb and Wind have together launched a new website providing consumer information on IPTV services, intended to spur the growth of subscribers to their respective IPTV services, reports local newspaper La Stampa.
The site is also intended to provide information to Italian consumers in the run up to the digital switchover in 2012. The site provides information on IPTV platforms, the lineup of free-to-air and pay channels, video-on-demand services, how to obtain a set-top box, region-by-region coverage and the transition of analogue channels to digital platforms.
The three telcos have previously launched last January the Associazione Italiana degli operatori IPTV (Italian Association of IPTV Providers) in order to "foster the use of IPTV in Italy and make an active contribution to the switch-off of analogue TV and the transition to digital by the end of 2012".
Telecom Italia had reached 365,000 subscribers for its IPTV service 'Alice home TV' by the end of the first quarter of this year, and while Fastweb releases very little IPTV subscriber data, according to Informa Telecoms & Media's online subscription service Intelligence Centre, it was targeting 350,000 subscribers for its service 'Fastweb TV' by the end of 2008. No subscriber figures for Wind's IPTV service 'Infostrada TV' at the time of publishing.
