SingTel makes the British connection

Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has revealed it will be adding new content from UK broadcasters the BBC and ITV to its IPTV service 'mio TV' on July 15th.

The new content is described as being a "premium selection of key pickings from two heavyweights in the international television arena", with two packages available - 'British Drama' and 'British Documentary'. Selected dramas and documentaries will be available one month after their UK broadcast, ahead of any other platform in Singapore.

On 'British Drama', viewers can catch titles from the BBC such as Hotel Babylon, Dr Who and Torchwood, while ITV content will include Britannia High, The Prisoner and My Boy Jack. The 'British Documentary' pack will offer some of the best award-winning documentaries, wildlife, science and natural history programmes from the two broadcasters, including first-run rights to major BBC titles such as Life (HD) and Nature's Great Events.

The new content will be offered as part of mio TV's SuperSaver English Pack, costing SGD 19.90 (US$ 13.70) per month. However, existing BBC linear channels will reportedly be removed from mio TV as part of a content reshuffling, with pricing details for new channels to be released at a later date.

SingTel added a record 19,000 new customers for its IPTV service 'mio TV' in the first quarter of this year, bringing its total to 78,000 subscribers.
