UPC offers real-time VoD in Austria

Austrian cable operator UPC has launched a real-time video-on-demand service. As with a DVD, viewers can start, pause, fast forward and rewind films ordered through the service and view them repeatedly.
The video library, available to all digital TV customers, comprises more than 170 titles. Current films cost €3.98, classics €1.98 and erotic films €5.98. Access to each movie is granted for a 24 hour period.
Until now, UPC only offered a near-video-on-demand service with films only available at fixed starting times. The new service, which can be accessed through the remote control of the digital receiver, is available on UPC’s entire cable network with the exception of the Tyrol region.
“In these hectic times, video-on-demand helps our customers to make best use of their spare time. They are able to see films whenever they want”, said Florian Köfler, head of UPC’s TV department, in Vienna. “Video-on-demand will gain even more importance in future”.
