Sky looking for review on sports
by David Allen
It looks as if Sky Sports is not going to be satisfied with having most of the top sporting events, as it is attacking the government’s so called “Crown Jewels” policy, where certain event are guaranteed to be available on free-to-view TV.
BSkyB believes that this policy is nothing less than a tax on sport, following the decision to keep events such as the FA Cup Final, Wimbledon and the Olympics on free-to-view TV.
It is understood that BSkyB thinks that the sport’s governing bodies should be allowed to negotiate with the media to maximize their financial prospects without the interference of politicians.
The Premier League is a prime example of how well that sort of system works for the sport, fan and of course the broadcaster too.
