CCTV to launch Russian language channel

China Central Television will set up a Russian language channel this September, while Russian officials hope to see their TV shows available in China sometime soon. Media officials from both countries met in Shanghai to sign a cooperation plan for the next year.
CCTV will set up a Russian language TV channel with 15 programmes. News and information will be the focus of more than 40 percent of the shows, while the rest will look at Chinese art and culture. The channel will begin broadcasting in China and Russian-speaking parts of Europe on 25 September.
During the meeting, Russian media officials said they hope their channels will soon be available in China. and Chinese officials said the government is working to realize that plan.
