Eutelsat’s board, meeting June 11 has selected a successor to Giuliano Berretta, its current CEO. The final choice was unanimous, according to Eutelsat insiders.

The new man is a professional businessman, from outside the satellite industry, but with a wide experience of running large companies especially in the pharmaceutical and chemical sectors. Michel de Rosen, born in 1951, is a graduate of the Ecole des Hautes Etudes Commercials.

Mr de Rosen will be CEO, with Mr Berretta continuing as chairman for the time being.

A firm of headhunters was used to select candidates, but it was felt important that Eutelsat’s two major shareholders, Abertis and French bank CDC, were happy with the new hiring. Stanislas Chapron, a senior director at insurance giant March, was also reportedly a candidate, as was Claude Allegre, France’s former education minister. Another name that had been talked about was Christian Pinon, CEO at Globecast.

There is no information as to whether any internal candidates were considered.
