Disney XD confirmed for UK

The UK has become the latest territory for Disney to launch its Disney XD brand, following similar announcements in Germany, France and Scandinavia.
No date has been given for the launch of the ad-supported channel that will be accompanied by a dedicated website. Described as being “the country’s first boy-focused, girl-inclusive channel for kids aged 6 to 14”, Disney XD will take capacity currently occupied by Jetix, the former Fox Kids.
“Disney Channel’s portfolio of channels is already the undisputed leader in the kids’ TV market and Disney XD is the perfect vehicle to build on the success in this strategic segment. The exclusive new content will appeal to a broader target audience while the Disney branding will create awareness and value,” said Boel Ferguson, General Manager for Disney Channels UK & Ireland.
“Disney XD will capitalise on all of the assets across the Company to make it the leading boy focused entertainment platform in the UK and around the world.”
The new channel will focus on adventure, accomplishment, gaming, music and sports, developed through the Disney-owned sports channel ESPN.
In the UK, Disney XD will sit alongside the Disney Channel, Playhouse Disney, and Disney Cinemagic brands.
