Discovery hops on to New TV wagon

Discovery has launched its high-definition channel, Discovery HD, in Taiwan, as part of Taiwan Fixed Network’s new IPTV platform, New TV. The channel launches along with four standard-definition offerings from Discovery’s suite of multichannels.

Also available on the platform are Discovery Science, Discovery Home & Health and Discovery Turbo. The whole Discovery package costs NT$200 a month (US$6),with Discovery HD also available as part of New TV’s HD package at the same price.

TFN’s IPTV platform is backed by a NT$1 billion (US$30 million) investment and the company wants New TV to become one of Taiwan’s top three pay-TV operators over the next three years. TFN itself is one of Taiwan’s largest broadband network providers.
