New figures from Médiamétrie’s bi-yearly Mediacabsat study show that 16.9 million French viewers are susbcribing to a pay-TV offer, with 11.8 million to CanalSat and 5.3 million to cable.
But viewing of thematic channels in the overall 4+ demographic for the first half of 2009 fell back slightly: the audience share passed from 29.9% in the previous study to 29.3%.
Among pay-TV households, the audience share of other TV including DTT channels grew to 39.1%. Comparatively, it was 28% in June among all TV equipped households.
Among the top cabsat channels, M6’s Paris Première and NBC Universal’s 13th Street still top the ratings, together on 0.9% audience share, and with 9.44 million and 6.96 million viewers each month respectively. M6’s women channel Téva places just behind with 0.8% audience share, followed by Tiji, Comédie and Disney XD (0.7%), then Canal J, Discovery Channel, Disney Channel, Playhouse Disney, Série Club and Sport+ (0.6%).
Usually, this study was led by sport channel Eurosport, but owner TF1 pulled out from it last year to have its ratings measured daily.
