700,000 IPTV customers at Telekom
German telco Deutsche Telekom is on track with subscriber development for its IPTV platform T-Home Entertain distributed on its ADSL broadband networks. 700,000 customers have so far been won for the service, Niek van Damme, Telekom’s head of sales and services, said in Munich. The company plans to have a million customers by year-end.
Telekom is expecting strong growth from its new soccer Bundesliga offer LIGA total! which it will launch at the beginning of the new season on August 7. T-Home Entertain, distributed via ADSL2+ and VDSL technologies, offers TV, internet and telephony from €44.95 per month.
Telekom is continuing to look for partners for the expansion of its fibre optic network (VDSL) which will help to bear the costs. “We know we can’t develop the fibre optic network alone,” said van Damme. In the cities of Würzburg and Heilbronn Telekom has already rolled out VDSL lines together with Vodafone. A VDSL expansion in eight Lower Saxony cities and in Bremerhaven has been agreed with telco EWE.
