du introduces Mediaroom-powered TV+ service

du, one of the two major telcos in the United Arab Emirates, has successfully launched an updated version of its IPTV service called 'du TV+' on July 1st, powered by Microsoft Mediaroom and offering new features such as simplified search and display, instant channel change and time-shifting, and high-definition content.

du TV+ is now available to new home customers in areas covered by du's fixed-line network, and existing customers will be migrated to du TV+ services in stages by swapping set-top boxes from August 15th, with the upgrade being delivered free of charge. New features offered by du TV+ are: intuitive and simplified search and display, better channel browsing, instant channel change capability, an enhanced Electronic Programme Guide, and the facility to pause, rewind and record live programming.

High-definition channels being included in the du TV+ service include National Geographic HD, myZen TV, Luxe TV and Showtime HD, all available as part of the suite of Free-to-Air channels. du reports that it is currently working with other content providers to bring more HD channels into the UAE.

“du has collaborated with Microsoft to bring a new dimension to TV viewing in the UAE," said Farid Faraidooni, Executive Vice President of Commercial at du. "Our state-of-art offering includes features like intuitive channel search and display, advanced browsing and High Definition TV. HD channels from du are available to all new du customers at no extra charge until 31 July, 2009. du will introduce its commercial HD packages in August 2009. Over the past several months, du has been working with leading channel providers to bring High Definition content into the UAE."

Subscriptions for du TV+ include a personal recordable decoder and a basic TV package of over 130 channels for a monthly fee of AED 55, while subscriptions for du TV come with a standard decoder and a basic TV package for a monthly fee of AED 30.
