German health channel Deutsches Gesundheitsfernsehen (DGF) has registered for insolvency at Hamburg’s district court.

Investment group Avantaxx, which holds the majority in the channel, stressed that the parent company was not affected. “The insolvency of thematic channel DGF does not endanger the solvency of Avantaxx or its subsidiaries,” said CEO Lutz Schaffhausen.

Avantaxx has been looking for investors for the main company or subsidiaries for some time. The sale of parts of the company is also being considered.

DGF launched on April 1 2007, focusing on health, nutrition and science. The free-to-air service, which wanted to finance through advertising and sponsoring, was initially available via cable and satellite, but, to save costs, retreated in February to the Internet where it continued as a web-TV offer.
