Classica HD to launch in August
German production and distribution company Unitel Classica wants to launch its high definition music TV channel for fans of classical music and opera this August.
According to the Munich-based company, the service will initially be transmitted from Singapore for the Asian market. The first carriage deals have been signed in South Korea with pay-TV platform Skylife and in Taiwan. Further countries and platforms are expected to follow, with the target being worldwide distribution on pay-TV platforms via cable, satellite and IPTV.
Unitel already operates music channel Classica, distributed in standard definition on pay-TV platform Sky in Germany and Austria. The channel is also available in Italy, Spain and Japan. The company, backed by former Kirch manager Jan Mojto, announced its HDTV plans in August 2008.
