The ASTRA 1F telecommunications satellite, currently positioned at 19,2 degrees east will soon leave its original location and be re-positioned at 57 degrees east . Last week all channel that were beamed from this satellite has been transferred to other satellite at 19.2 degrees east . The satellite will operate at 57 degrees east until the launch of the NSS-12 telecommunications satellite, planned for the last quarter of 2009 . Currently serving at 57 degrees eat is the aging NSS-703 satellite. launched on October 6th, 1994 . Positioning ASTRA 1F at 53 degrees east will enable the operator to add 30 more active transponders from this orbital position . Following the successful launch of NSS-12, ASTRA plans to move the ASTRA 1F satellite back to its original location at 19,2 degrees east.
