German soccer association Deutsche Fußball Liga (DFL) is planning to launch its own television channel, with a licence application for a service dubbed Sport Kanal (Sport Channel) having been lodged at media authority LPR.

Quoting DFL sources, newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung reports that a soccer “Bundesliga History Channel” is planned, screening decisive and legendary matches from previous Bundesliga seasons. The model of the archive channel will be US service ESPN Classic, which is also available in Europe. Further details are not yet known.

With its subsidiary Sportcast, DFL is already active in the field of TV productions. Sportcast creates the live footage from Bundesliga stadiums for rights holders such as Sky, Deutsche Telekom, ARD and ZDF and produces Bundesliga show Goal for foreign TV channels.
