Cablecom to expand VoD service

Switzerland’s largest cable operator Swisscom wants to extend the reach of its video-on-demand service (VoD), Cablecom on Demand, to the whole country by the end of 2010.

The trial period commenced in June in Zurich and surroundings, Cablecom spokesman Hans-Peter Nehmer told Swiss newspaper Sonntag. “The feedback from our customers was positive.”

Telco Swisscom has been providing a VoD service as part of the IPTV platform Bluewin TV on its ADSL broadband networks for 3 years. To catch up with its competitor, Cablecom offers not only Hollywood blockbusters, but also erotic films.

According to the paper, movies such as A.S.S. Army, Fetish Factor and Lusty Busty Dolls 6 have accounted for more than half of the VoD turnover during the test period, despite the majority of the 250 titles offered being Hollywood films.

Although a money-spinner, Bluewin TV will not include erotic content. “Swisscom, traditionally being a family-friendly company with corresponding moral values, has decided not to offer movies with erotic content on Bluewn TV,” said spokesman Olaf Schulze.
