French overseas DTT 'within two years'

French Secretary of State in charge of overseas territories, Marie-Luce Penchard, has announced DTT will be launched in countries outside of France within two years from now.

“The launch of the first multiplex in oversea territories should occur before the end of 2010,” she said, “which is one year before digital switchover in metropolitan France.”

France’s overseas territories include Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Polynesia and French Guiana.

According to Penchard, the arrival of DTT in those territories will help them to open up the region, economically, socially and culturally speaking.

DTT is currently available in 88% of the French metropolitan territory.
