ARTE boosts HDTV output

German-French cultural channel ARTE will launch its “HDTV weeks” at the upcoming consumer electronics fair IFA in Berlin. From August 29 to September 30, the channel’s schedule will consist almost entirely of programmes produced in high-definition.

The content can be seen on ARTE HD which is available as a free-to-air service on Astra (19.2° East) and on cable networks. The offer will include musical concerts, theatre plays, documentaries and movies, for example the highlights of the music festival in Swiss town Verbier, TV series The Tudors, and documentary series Miracle Body.

Since its launch on July 1 2008, ARTE HD has gradually increased its amount of original HD content with the remaining material being up-converted. From 2010, the channel plans to almost exclusively screen native HD productions.
