Telefonica has said it remains interested in taking a stake in Spanish satcaster Digital+, but only as a minority shareholder.

COO Julio Linares is reported to have told a journalists’ dinner that the company would be interested in marking a bid if an opportunity presented itself with a majority industrial partner.

The telco continues to be linked in the protracted sale of the business from current owners Prisa. In January, Telefonica placed a €2 billion bid for the business with Vivendi, the owner of Canal+, which was rejected by Prisa as being short of the €2.5 billion it was seeking.

Telefonica and Vivendi are both former shareholders in the Spanish DTH business, Telefonica through the former Via Digital platform that merged with Digital+ in 2003.
