Deutsche Telekom: 800,000 IPTV subs

German telco Deutsche Telekom has increased the number of subscribers to the IPTV platform T-Home Entertain on its ADSL broadband networks to more than 800,000, with 1 million planned by year-end.

In addition to its new soccer Bundesliga channel LIGA total!, Telekom hopes to attract new customers through an expanded HDTV offer. The digital video library will increase the amount of high-definition titles to 500 by the end of the year. T-Home Entertain is also distributing the HDTV showcase by public broadcasters ARD and ZDF during consumer electronics fair IFA in Berlin from September 4 – 9.

A new IPTV receiver will be offered from October. The MR 301, which can be rented for €5.95 per month, contains a 320 gigabyte hard drive and can record up to 230 hours of TV programmes. The MR 300 with 160 gigabytes storage capacity is still available for €4.95 per month.

The channel offer will also be expanded in October with movie channel Tele 5, film and series channel Romance TV and erotic channel Lust Pur being added to the service. Altogether T-Home Entertain comprises around 150 TV channels, 10,000 titles in the online video library and TV archive, around 2,500 radio stations and interactive services.

The offer, which is available to around 20 million households via the technologies ADSL2+ or VDSL, can be subscribed to together with a telephone and internet line as a triple play package from €44.95 per month.
