Red Bee Media’s Piero 3D virtual graphics system has been sold into Germany, joining broadcasters including Sky Italia and the BBC. Germany’s Sat.1 and Plazamedia, which produces Deutsche Telekom’s Bundesliga coverage, have signed up for a variety of Piero’s features.

Piero gives on-air sports pundits the ability to immediately review controversial decisions, analyse tactics and enhance highlights through the real-time transition of live action into virtual reality. Red Bee Media said the system reduces set up time and costs compared to a camera sensor-based system.

Sat.1 has invested in Piero as part of a broader relaunch of RAN, the iconic football programme. The broadcaster has signed up for all of Piero’s premium features, including animations of 3D players to reconstruct play. RAN has rights to UEFA Champions’ League and Europa League football.

Karl Stone, Head of Business Development, Piero, said: “Breaking into the German market is a great strategic move for Piero, opening up the potential to use and develop further technology and work with key sporting media brands.”
