ND SatCom, an SES ASTRA company, has introduced the SkyWAN® IDU 1070 at IBC2009, which targets the broadcasting, telecoms/GSM and corporate sectors. The IDU 1070 comes in a compact 1HU (Height Unit) chassis and is suited for mobile stations such as broadcaster’s SNG vehicles, FlyAways, or transportable units, where rack space counts. A built-in, multi-port Ethernet switch allows plug in communications devices for VoIP, video-conferencing and all kinds of IP data applications without additional hardware. Many integrated or external power supply options are available — also operation through solar power. The IDU 1070 is an IP-only terminal, which includes the full set of SkyWAN®’s security features. The separation of the user from network management traffic combined with Link Encryption makes the IDU 1070 the terminal of choice for any transmission of sensitive data. SkyWAN® IDU 1070 is fully compatible with the IDU 7000 series and can be used as remote station in star, mesh and hybrid network topologies. ND SatCom already inked a deal with Q-KON, a leading South-African service provider, which uses the SkyWAN® IDU 1070 as a major component in a pan-African network comprising approximately 1000 stations for organizations in the in mining, oil & gas, banking, and transportation industries.
