Amino Communications has secured an 18-month contract to supply Tele2 Netherlands with set-top boxes for its IPTV service. Cambridge-based Amino will supply its latest A132 and A532 MPEG-4 dual SD/HD compatible and PVR models.

Amino Communications chief executive officer Andrew Burke described the win as being strategically important. “In a strong and competitive selection process, we were able to demonstrate a compelling package of product, partnerships, flexibility and a deep understanding of the needs and demands of network operators, like Tele2, that are actively deploying IPTV services.”

Tele2 has around 400,000 customers, though not all take the IPTV service.

    Tele2 orders Amino STBs

Dutch telco Tele2 Netherlands has signed a contract with UK firm Amino for the latter to supply its latest A132 and A532 MPEG-4 SD/HD compatible and PVR-capable models over an 18-month period.

“We needed a STB that offered the most advanced features, responsive interface and a clear road map that was aligned with our own future strategy on IPTV," said Günther Vogelpoel, Director of Consumer Products for Tele2. "Amino’s products combined advanced functionality, a total cost of ownership and a supporting ecosystem, which made them the compelling choice.”

Tele2 has been operating its IPTV service in the Netherlands for a while over its ADSL2+ network, offering around 40 channels in the basic package. The company was recently reported to be planning to launch high-definition services on its IPTV platform at some point next year as part of a revamped offering, which is also expected to include more personalisation options.
