Viewers will be able to receive the new DTH service operated by the Polish public broadcaster TVP with decoders costing no more than PLN300 (€72.4).
However, according to TVP’s president Piotr Farfal, quoted in Wirtualne Media, the price will ultimately be decided by manufacturers.
Farfal added that a total of 27 producers and distributors of set-top boxes had been approached by TVP, and of these 22 had taken up its offer. They have since been joined by two more companies, and supplies of the MPEG-4 receivers needed to watch the service should start appearing in large numbers in retail outlets this November.
Farfal also said that a hybrid box capable of receiving the DTH service and DTT signals is likely to appear in January 2010. The second stage of the TVP platform rollout will see the introduction of non-TVP channels such as Polsat, Polsat 2, TVN, TVN7 and possibly others. They will be available for a one –off card fee of around PLN50.
