Polish DTT launch delayed

The introduction of DTT has suffered yet another setback in Poland, with its first multiplex now unlikely to make its debut this month, as had initially been planned.

Quoted in Wirtualne Media, Anna Strezynska, the president of the Office of Electronic Communications (UKE), said the delay is down to broadcasters challenging the concessions they have received for the first multiplex.

She singled out TVP in particular, though also conceded that some of the questioning of the content may be justified.

Strezynska also said broadcasters were reluctant to release their analogue frequencies, knowing that they would face more competition in the digital sphere.

Polandís first DTT multiplex was due to be launched in six locations, include Poznan and the capital, Warsaw, sometime this month. It is as yet unclear how this latest delay will put back the launch of Polandís second multiplex.
