Swisscom selects Motorola VDSL2 gateways

Swisscom has selected Motorola's Netopia 7300 series of ultra-broadband VDSL2 gateways to deliver multi-play services to its customers across Switzerland, including high-speed data, voice-over-IP, high-definition IPTV and home networking.

Swisscom customers will be provided with a Motorola 7340-44 VDSL2 gateway as part of a basic package supporting voice and data, or they can upgrade to a Motorola 7347-44 VDSL2 gateway should they choose from a variety of multi-service packages offered by Swisscom, which include IPTV.

“Motorola’s VDSL2 gateways are designed specifically to support ultra-broadband services such as IPTV, video and gaming,” said Andreas Martschitsch, Head of In-Home Connectivity at Swisscom. “The advanced routing features of Motorola’s VDSL2 gateways, the support for TR-069 to enable remote management, and advanced telephony features, allow us to deliver a first-class broadband to our subscribers and open up a world of enhanced features and applications that can be quickly and easily delivered.”

Swisscom saw the number of subscribers for its IPTV service 'Bluewin TV' more than double in 12 months from 80,000 in June 2008 to 165,000 in June 2009, and added 26,000 customers in the second quarter of this year.
