Panasonic develops 50-inch, full HD, 3D plasma TV

Panasonic Corporation has developed a 50-inch Full HD 3D compatible plasma display panel (PDP) and high-precision active shutter glasses that enable the viewing of theatre-quality, true-to-life 3D images in the living rooms. Aiming to bring full HD 3D TVs to the market in 2010, the company has stepped up its efforts in developing the related technology. Prototype full HD 3D TV and glasses will be displayed at CEATEC JAPAN 2009 to be held in October.

Panasonic introduce innovative 50in 3D Plasma screen

    Monday, 28 September 2009

True to their promise of a whole raft of 3D capable products, Panasonic have introduced a 3D ready 50in Plasma TV.

Although in prototype form at the moment, the giant 3D plasma screen represents some of the early fruit from Panasonic's advanced authoring laboratory in Hollywood. Based in Universal City the new 3D labs are working towards establishing a 3D Full HD (3D FHD) Blu-ray format along with the introduction of a range of 3D products.

Unfortunately, Panasonicís 3D plasma screen still requires users to wear active-shutter glasses. These glasses create the illusion of 3D by alternately darkening the lenses of over each eye, synchronizing with the screenís refresh rate.

Panasonic plan to develop a Plasma 3D Full HD home theater system (which it demonstrated in prototype form at CES 2009), a 3D-ready digital cinema projector (Theatrical Dolby 3-D system) with a 380-inch screen theater for 3D HD picture quality evaluation, and a 3-D ready MPEG-4 AVC High Profile encoder.

Panasonic described their 3D strategy as the introduction of a range of 3D TV's which will 'perfectly complement' the firmís upcoming range of 3D-capable Blu-ray Disc players creating a 'full HD 3D system'.
