Vietnam's VNPT officially launches IPTV in Hanoi
Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) has officially launched its new IPTV service 'MyTV' in Hanoi.
The new service is initially available in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, but will be expanded nationwide from October, according to VNPT. The company is believed to have a phased approach to its IPTV rollout, whereby the first phase includes live TV, VOD, music-on-demand (MOD) and TV-on-demand (TVoD), while the second planned phase will add media sharing services, usage data access and e-education to the service, amongst other elements.
Speaking at the launch ceremony in Hanoi, VNPT’s Chairman of the Board of Directors Pham Long Tran stated that the company has thoroughly upgraded its network infrastructure, chosen the most advanced technology for the new service and acquired licences for a vide variety of content. The new service is believed to be based on an integrated solution from ZTE and Verimatrix.
VNPT holds a 70% share of Vietnam's telecoms market, with 62.4mn telephone subscribers as of last August, including 50.6mn mobile phone users.
