Elgato, the makers of the EyeTV, have released an iPhone application that makes it possible to stream live TV from the Apple Mac computer at home to anywhere in the world. The new place shifting EyeTV application allows viewers to watch, record, and enjoy live and recorded TV on their iPhone or iPod touch.

The EyeTV application accesses EyeTV running on the Mac at home to deliver these features to their iPhone: watch live TV and change channels anywhere (Wi-Fi connection required); watch EyeTV recordings; browse the comprehensive Program Guide; start recordings back home on their Mac immediately or schedule them for later and view and edit their recording schedules

The EyeTV running on the Mac converts live TV to the correct format for streaming to the iPhone, ensuring optimal picture quality.

When on the road, viewers need to access their EyeTV at home using the free My EyeTV application. The EyeTV application can automatically find the Mac when the viewer is on the road if their router supports UPnP or NAT-PMP protocols. Alternatively, people can manually configure their router and/or use a dynamic DNS service.
