Shaw to lead Discovery commercial teams

Discovery Networks International has named Chris Shaw in the new role of senior vice president, commercial development across EMEA and the UK. The former regional director for Universal McCann has been consulting for Discovery for the past year and has already led a number of strategically important projects.

The new role will see Shaw give strategic guidance to the six business markets that fall within the EMEA and separate UK business. His brief includes the development and implementation of advertising revenue strategies for spots, sponsorships and brand partnerships.

Shaw is also handling the new Discovery ad sales contract with industry speculation suggesting it will go to the RTL-owned Five. The current contract with Sky Media expires at the end of the year, but is unlikely to be renewed, amid a dispute over the amount of revenue paid by Sky to Discovery.
