SingTel wins rights to English Premier League
Singapore Telecommunications (SingTel) has won the rights to exclusively broadcast games from the English Premier League for three years on its IPTV service 'mio TV', starting in August 2010, as well as the exclusive broadcast rights to a suite of sports networks and services from ESPN STAR Sports (ESS).
Three of the channels are ESPN, STAR Sports and STAR Cricket, which make up ESS' flagship channel offerings, featuring world-class sporting events including the FA Cup, AFC, Formula One, the Australian Open, Wimbledon, The Open Championship (golf) and the US Open Golf Championship. ESPNEWS, a brand new 24-hour sports news channel, is also planned to go live on mio TV in November 2009.
“We are very pleased to bring quality sports content from ESPN STAR Sports, a recognised global leader in sports broadcasting, to our customers," said Allen Lew, CEO of SingTel's operations in Singapore. "We believe that our partnership will create an excellent sports product for the fans in Singapore.”
SingTel celebrated last July passing the 100,000 customer milestone for mio TV, reaching the total within just under two years.
