Last week’s CEATEC technology show in Chiba, Japan saw Mitsubishi unveil its latest 155” OLED ‘Diamond Vision’ display screen.

It stunned the crowd, with a claimed brightness three-times that of any current LCD. Claimed life for these OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) screens is only some 20,000 hours.

In truth the screen isn’t a single OLED creation but consists of 720 10-centimeter square individual tiled OLEDs. Mitsubishi could, in theory, permutate these small modular blocks to any size it wants, although there is no suggestion – as yet – that this showcase model will actually make it into production.

The modular use of these small tiles means that the display could be used on curved surfaces, and Mitsubishi suggests they’ll best be used in outdoor locations even to cover buildings.
