New DM500s with CCcam

is the only way to edit the .cfg is using dreambox dcc via ftp and do i have to re enable dhcp after i have edited the file so it can access the internet again through my router, just i set the dreambox settings to 192.168.0.2 to gain access with my pc ip being 192.168.0.1

No, not at all!
a. use ftp to download the cfg file.
b. edit and save it
c. upload it again to your receiver and overwrite the existing one.

Some editors like ultraedit have their own ftp client. You can open, edit and save cfg files at once.

A sample home network configuration should be like
router: 192.168.0.1
pc: 192.168.0.5
dreambox: 192.168.0.10
