Digital-terrestrial TV penetration in Japan has risen by nearly 9 percentage points in six months, to reach 69.5% by the end of September, according to Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
Sales of digital-terrestrial TV sets for the six months stood at 9.19 million, up 35.4% on the same period the previous year. Some 4.4 million homes switched from watching analogue to digital TV during the period, meaning that over half the units sold were for use as second or subsequent sets.
Japan has an analogue switch-off date of July 24, 2011.
