BBC HD bit rate reduction won’t affect picture quality

It has been noticed by some viewers that the quality of the BBC HD picture being transmitted is not as sharp as it used to be.

This is because the BBC has recently reduced the bit rate of the channel and even though the broadcaster has admitted to doing this, it claims that new equipment being used actually makes up the difference to the point where it is not even noticeable.

There are plenty of theories about what is going on here, the main one being that the BBC is bringing the levels down to match that of Freeview HD.

By doing so, viewers will not be able to compare the quality of the HD picture on different platforms because they will all be the same.

Whatever the reason, the BBC seems to be struggling with HD quality for now.
