Opticum 9500 HD Setting

I am in Australia and I have just received an Opticum 9500 2CI 2CX Plus from Europe and lo and behold- it does not have a capability to pickup the satellite I have my dish pointed at(Intesat8/KU at 166degreesE), nor does it detect my SelectTV smartcard. Have I bought an anchor, or will the firmware update render the box a worldwide receiver? Or is there a software update which will fix my problem. Any help would be appreciated, even the Opicum website listed in the manual does not work so an email address for there support service would be of help.
