This is a serious question as I am about to set up a system and I think that I must be missing something. So what am I missing?
Well I'm an English/German speaking ex-pat in Romania. I have a motorized system to watch DIGI 1W, as well as German and English FTA channels on Eurobird 28.5E, Astra 19E, Hotbird 13E, Eurobird 9E, Sirius 5E and Telstar 15W. Quite a wide range of birds. I also find feeds that I want to watch from time to time that could be anywhere in the arc from my location, so having a motor helps make that possible. Thank you for your post. You certainly do use quite a few different Satellites ;)
It makes me wonder how on Earth you manage to keep track of all the TV channels.

A lot of people have accused me of being motivated by porn but I can assure you it's live football.
I've never had a motorised system. Apart from my Sky minidish, I've got two larger ones. One picks up 19.2e and 13.0e and the other picks up 0.8w and 1.0w.
What are you looking to watch???
Check the quality of the motorization system, some of them will break because of wind. a fixed antenna is always stronger than a motorized system. I also suggest to use a diseqc system with fixed antenna if the maximum satellite that you will receive is 4.
A motorized system is just as stable as a fixed system, provided the components are selected and installed correctly. My motorized dishes (one is a H-H motor and the other is using a 18" Heavy Duty actuator jack) have withstood 80+km/h gusts during a severe storm. A diseqc fixed system can work well if the desired satellites are not too far apart. For example, you can't use a single fixed dish to see 39E, 13E and 1W....it's much too wide a spread and a motor is a must.
I'm used SG2100 motor from 7 years without any problems. Alu dish 90 cm. Satelites range from 75E to 45W. I'm live in Warsaw, Poland.
