Babelgum’s main backer, Silvio Scaglia, might be languishing under something of a cloud while he faces allegations of fraud in Italy, but Babelgum itself has seen four of its original Web productions nominated for the 2nd Annual Streamy Awards, due on April 11.

Babelgum says that four of its exclusive, original Web series were nominated for the 2nd Annual Streamy Awards to be held on April 11. The Streamy Awards is the first and most prestigious live awards show dedicated to honoring the actors, directors, editors, producers, writers, and production talent behind some of the best original programming on the internet. In addition, Babelgum’s new Reverse Shot Branded Channel debuted exclusive new interviews with Academy Award nominees Michael Haneke and Christian Berger (The White Ribbon), and acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender, star of the multiple Oscar-nominated WWII epic Inglourious Basterds.

“I’m truly excited that the outstanding quality of our multi-channel original programming is being honored at this year’s Streamy Awards,” stated Amber J. Lawson, Babelgum’s Comedy Publisher. “It’s a testament to how far we’ve come since we shifted toward editorially curated, original, and exclusive professionally produced programming two years ago,” added Karol Martesko-Fenster, SVP and General Manager of Babelgum’s Film Division. “This strategy, which Babelgum was first to adopt among free streaming video sites, is clearly paying off, helping us attract top talent and advertisers.”

Old Friends, a comedy about friendship, sex, boundaries and virginity that’s winning the war against the Avatar-size Bannen Way, was nominated for Best New Web Series. Mr. Wrong, a virtual date-show cast with some of L.A.’s finest improv comedians, picked up a nomination for Best Mobile Experience in a Web Series. For Best Visual Effects, a third nomination went to The Crew, a sci-fi mockumentary following the lives of a Star Trek-like engine room crew. RADAR, a series of three-minute episodes highlighting innovative projects and events across different creative disciplines, soon launching its third season, was nominated for Best Reality or Documentary Series.
