Africa’s 1st all-news channel imminent

An Arabic-language ‘African’ news channel will be launched on May 20. Based in Mauritius, the new channel, ‘Al Qarra’ (the Continent) will “meet the need to cover and broadcast the African news as well as informing about the assets of the continent performances for Arab-speaking public.”



The creation of this channel aims at accompanying the development of relations between the Arab countries of Middle East and Gulf with the African continent to better highlight these multi-sectoral relations, an official said.

According to the official, Al Qarra will have a team of journalists and correspondents in the various capitals, and the Maghreb, the Sub-Saharan region and East Africa will be targeted by the channel.

The channel will be available from May 20 from Arabsat’s BADR 6 craft.
