Public broadcaster SABC will televise the first test later this week between South Africa and India plus all the subsequent action from the India cricket tour, following a new deal forged with Cricket South Africa (CSA).
The partnership will see SABC3 broadcast three test matches, five one day internationals and one international pro20 match – starting with the first test from 16-20 December in Centurion.
In addition, SABC – again in conjunction with CSA - will next year launch a new weekly cricket magazine programme to showcase South African cricket. The launch is scheduled to follow the 2011 cricket World Cup, according to Gerald Majola, CSA CEO.
Robin Nicholson, SABC Acting GCEO, said the deal with CSA and the new magazine show are an indication of the broadcaster’s commitment to important national sporting events. “This tour comes at a time when we as a country are celebrating 150 years of Indian settlement in South Africa. We as the SABC are proud to be part of this partnership, especially following our successful broadcast of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.”
