Syed Tariq Universal Networks International chief for CE

Syed Tariq will be responsible for the launch of new television channels from NBC Universal portfolio in the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland, Slovak Republic, Romania and the Balkans
Tariq Syed was appointed CEO of Universal Networks International (UNI) for Central Europe, which covers the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In this role, Syed Tariq will be responsible in particular the continued expansion of pay TV channels from NBC Universal portfolio in the region, expanding distribution and increasing revenue from television advertising. The notice was issued by Colin McLeod, Chief Executive Officer of Universal Networks International's Emerging Markets EMEA, which will report Syed Tariq.

McLeod said: " We are delighted to welcome Tariq to our team. I believe his experience will be of considerable benefit to meet our ambitious expansion plans in EMEA markets . "

Syed Tariq comes into Universal Networks of NBC Universal, where he was Vice President of Business Development with responsibility for global acquisitions and strategic projects of the company. Syed Tariq started his career at British Telecom where he held various positions in finance and business development. Extensive business experience gained in the O2's, Bear Stearn's Telecoms Media and Technology. He studied mathematics at King's College and received an MBA degree at IESE Business School in Spain.
