Canal+ Overseas to reduce activities in Maghreb

French pay-tv group Canal+ has confirmed the closure of bouquet Canal+ Maghreb operated by Canal+ Overseas in Morocco and Algeria.
Canal+ Maghreb started broadcasting in February 2009 and its offer comprised 25 French channels accessible for six months or one year through a system of pre-paid cards. However large-scale piracy has made commercial activity inefficient.
The bouquet will still be broadcast for several months on Arabsat until the end of the contracts. Last September, Canal+ Maghreb planned to open service in Tunisia. This project is currently postponed.
