    Littbarski - under pressure.
    LITTBARSKI UNDER PRESSURE

Pierre Littbarski's reign as coach of Wolfsburg is in danger of coming to a premature end after Saturday's 2-1 defeat at home to Nurnberg saw the 2009 Bundesliga champions drop into the bottom three of the Bundesliga.
The Wolves have lost four and won only one match since Littbarski took over from Steve McClaren last month.
That poor form could force the club's managing director Dieter Hoeness, who kept a low profile after Saturday's defeat, to sack a second coach in the space of just five weeks, although Littbarski says his only complaint about yesterday's match was the fact his side did not score more goals.
"The result is incredibly tough," he said. "The team had great chances, but we were not rewarded.
"Nevertheless, you can see that the team has accepted that it is in a relegation battle and they had a great attitude.
"We have bounced back after the poor game against Leverkusen.
"We played well against a good Nurnberg side, but we just slept in both penalty areas. We should have scored more goals and then we did not pay attention on two set pieces.
"I saw a lot of positives, but we now must analyse the mistakes and try to get the points that we need."
Hoeness left the VW-Arena without a single word to reporters, which seems to be an ominous sign.
According to reports in Germany, veteran coach Hans Meyer could now be brought in to try and rescue the club from relegation, like he did in recent years with Nurnberg and Hertha Berlin.
Hoeness was in charge at Berlin when he appointed Meyer in 2004, and the 68-year-old has forged a reputation for saving clubs from the threat of relegation, which is precisely what Wolfsburg need as they could slip into the bottom two if Stuttgart, their next opponents, beat St Pauli on Sunday.

    Michael Appleton - staying on.
DUO TO STAY ON WITH BAGGIES

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson has confirmed assistant head coach Michael Appleton and first team coach Keith Downing will remain part of his backroom staff for the remainder of the season.
Appleton and Downing were promoted into their current roles following the departure of Roberto Di Matteo last month.
Hodgson has been sufficiently impressed with their contribution to keep them as part of his coaching team.
He said: "My first month has gone as smoothly as it possibly could and a lot of thanks goes to Michael and Keith.
"They have been a huge help with their support and knowledge of the players I have inherited.
"I see no reason to change anything for the remainder of the season. In the summer we will look at things again when there is more time to assess everything."

Dani Alves - hopes to stay at Barcelona.
ALVES KEEN TO STAY AT BARCA

Manchester City target Dani Alves is determined to sign a new contract at Barcelona.
Alves has been unable to agree a new deal with the Catalan club and admits he is frustrated by Barca's stance during recent negotiations.
"I don't feel the club have bent over backwards to renew my contract - it's a feeling I have," he told local newspaper Sport.
"I just want an agreement to be reached now, or within a few days.
"I don't like the fact there have been so many rumours - I'm as committed to this project as anyone in the squad."
Alves has been a key part of Barca's success under Pep Guardiola, adding a new dimension to the club's attacking play with his dangerous forays down the right flank.
Widely considered to be the best in the world in his position, Alves knows he would be expensive to replace and admits he wants parity with the club's highest earners.
"I won't be a hypocrite - if the club want to replace me it could cost them dear," he said.
"What Dani wants is for the club to value him depending on his importance and influence within the squad.
"If they do that, I'll be delighted and if not, thanks for these years (at the club)."
In the meantime, however, the 27-year-old says he remains fully committed to the Barca cause.
"I will break my back for this team, even if I don't renew," he said.
"It's a dream to form part of this dressing room and whatever is said, written or protested, my name is already written in the history of this club."
