Displaying jpeg images on an LCD television?

I generally burn jpeg images onto a dvd to display on my tv through my dvd player.However the images are never as good as when viewed on the pc.
I have a vga connection from my pc to my tv (toshiba ) but need to alter the graphics settings on my laptop to be able to view anything.
Is there a way in which i can display the jpeg images better on my tv?

what is the resolution of your TV set ? besides if your TV is bigger than the screen of your PC, it is quite normal that images are not as sharper on TV as on PC
