BRYSON: PLAYERS BEHIND SHIELS
Craig Bryson revealed the Kilmarnock players have vowed to help Kenny Shiels become permanent boss of the Rugby Park club.
The Irishman was installed as caretaker manager following the departure of Mixu Paatelainen who took over as boss of the Finland national side.
The Killie skipper insists Shiels has played an integral part in guiding the Ayrshire club into the top six in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League this season as assistant to Paatelainen, and deserves a chance to follow in the footsteps of the Finn.
"The players had a wee talk among ourselves and the outcome was that everyone said we would give the same effort and commitment to Kenny as we did under Mixu," said Bryson. "I don't see why we wouldn't.
"We were delighted for Mixu to get the chance to go to Finland but we need to keep looking forward.
"We still have eight games to play until the end of the season and we want to do as well as we can and so we will give Kenny the support.
"Mixu and Kenny have been excellent to work under and hopefully, now that Kenny is the manager, he can do the same job.
"He is really thorough, he knows so much about the game and he gives us confidence.
"Honestly, he has been excellent to work under.
"I think he goes a wee bit unnoticed by the media and fans but he has not gone unnoticed by the players.
"Kenny has the same philosophy as Mixu so I don't think we will see much change in the way we play and then it will be up to the chairman to decide what he wants to do about the manager.
"But Kenny wanting to play the game the same way as Mixu makes it easier for us to get over the departure of our manager."
Bryson was not surprised to see Paatelainen leave and insists it's part and parcel of modern-day football.
"Managers are the same as players, if they are doing a good job then they are going to get linked with other teams and other teams will show interest," said the former Clyde player ahead of the SPL clash with St Johnstone at McDiarmid Park.
"I think we have known for a few weeks that he would get a chance at a higher level.
"It is obviously a great recognition for him and it must be a great honour.
"We are delighted and gutted at the same time.
"Delighted that he has been recognised and given the chance and the honour to manage his national team but obviously gutted for Kilmarnock and everyone at the club.
"He has done a massive job here, taking us from relegation candidates to finishing in the top six.
"It has been an unbelievable turnaround."
