France Télévisions launches overseas DTT services

France Télévisions has launched new DTT services for French overseas territories through Réseau Outre-Mer 1ère, the French foreign broadcasting organisation.
Réseau Outre-Mer 1ère provides the services through six separate multiplexes — one per territory — carried through DVB-S2 transmissions from Paris.
The new services are using Thomson Video Networks head-end technology, delivering programming in SD and HD with MPEG-4 encoding.
Local Réseau Outre-Mer 1ère channels and France Télévisions national channels are encoded in MPEG-4 in either SD or HD, before being multiplexed together and delayed before transmission depending on their time zone.
French overseas territories combine a population of more than 2.5 million.
