Pakistan’s Pemra issues deadline to TV channels

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (Pemra) has issued directives to all its licensed satellite TV channels to strictly adhere to the programming mix and terms and conditions of their respective licences.
It has given a deadline of 15 days to all those who have been persistently contravening their approved content provisions and in case of further non-compliance, Pemra intends to take legal action against them.
Pemra has taken issue with its licensed channels in the past, warning them to abide by the specified content in their categories. However, it hasn’t yet taken action against them, as the electronic media industry inPakistanwas taking off, and Pemra wanted to allow the channels to flourish while applying self-regulation.
