French pay-TV group Canal+ has decided to strengthen the identity of its three kids’ and family channels, Canal+ Family, Piwi and Teletoon.
Complementing the Canal+ line-up, Canal+ Family aims at being more considered as a family channel than a mere kid channels. Though the channel’s audience grew up 17 % over one year, Canal+ Family needs to enhance its positioning and so Canal+ Group is thus planning to fully reorganise its schedules in June, with daytime slots dedicated to kids’ programming and prime-time slots targeting the whole family.
Programming will be based on three kinds of genres: series, cinema and animation. Canal+ Family is currently investing €6 million into animated shows and buys the rights of 70 movies a year, including 12 original ones for first-run window.
In parallel, Canal+ Group also takes into account French kid channels very competitive market. As of 17 May, Piwi is targeting the 3-6 demographic and Teletoon, dedicated to the 6-10, will be more closely associated to Canal+ brand.
The two TPS former kids’ channels will turn their names into Piwi+ and Télétoon+ and change their on-air design.
