Telekom Austria expands IPTV platform

Austria's national telco A1 Telekom Austria has extended the TV line-up on the IPTV platform on its ADSL broadband network.

The telco will launch twenty new channels to the basic package of A1 Kabel TV (formerly called aonTV) which now contains more than 110 TV channels. The platform also comprises 30 pay-TV channels and 10 HDTV channels.

Among the new additions are 14 foreign-language channels from countries such as Spain, Portugal, Poland, Hungary, Rumania, Russia and China. The foreign-language bouquet, which has thereby grown to a total of 33 channels, targets the around 1.5 million people in Austria with cultural roots in different countries in Europe or other parts of the world.

Further new channels onboard A1 Kabel TV's basic package are N24, Astro TV, Hip 90, MediaShop and ORF 2 Europe as well as regional channels Kärnten TV and Tirol TV. Salzburg Plus and Osttirol TV will follow in June.

The monthly subscription price of the basic package remains at €4.90. The precondition for signing up is a fixed-line telephone subscription from Telekom Austria which is available from €15.98 per month, plus the IPTV box which can be rented for €1.90 per month.

The customers can also access a video-on-demand service (VOD) offering more than 2,000 movies, series and TV programmes as well as 300 national and international radio stations and interactive information services such as weather, horoscope and news.

Austria’s incumben telecoms operator A1 Teleom Austria has rebranded as A1 and at the same time has changed the name of its IPTV service aonTV into A1 Kabel TV. The platform is also increasing the number of channels and introducing faster zapping between the channels.

A1 Kabel TV basic tier now boosts over 110 channels by adding twenty more channels including Turkish, Serbian and other language channels to its line-up. The total IPTV offer from A1 Kabel TV now reaches over 150 channels.

“With more than 150 TV channels we provide our A1 Kabel TV customers with an unprecedented variety of programming. Austrian residents, who have their roots abroad, can now access first-hand information in their own language on current developments in their countries. We recognise this need and build our international range of content, “said Alexander Sperl, board director and CCO.

Apart from the international channels, A1 Kabel TV also added two regional broadcasters from Kärnten and Tirol as well as German news channel N24, Astro TV, Hip 90, MediaShop and ORF 2 Europe.

TRhe operator also said it has now introduced Fast Channel Change technology in order to allow for faster changing bedtween the channels as well as offering a better picture and sound quality.

The costs of the basic tier remians unchanged at EUR 4.90 a month; in addition, susbcribers need to buy foxed line access from A1, at EUR15.98 monthly and the decorder rent at EUR1.90. The total A!1 Kabel TV offers now has 110 basic channels, 30 premium channels and 10 HD channels.

The listy of added channels is: Kärnten TV, Tirol TV, BN TV SAT (Serbian), BN Music (Serbian), ATV Avrupa (Turkish), Kanal 7 Avrupa (Turkish), CT24 (Czech), Duna TV (Hiungarian), Pro TV (Romanian), TV Silesia (Polish), Channel One Russia (Russian), RTR Planeta (Russian), CCTV 9 (Chinese), PCNE (Chinese), TVE (Spanisc), Record TV (Portuguese), N24, Astro TV, HIP 90, Media Shop, ORF 2 Europe. Next month, Salzburg Plus and Osttirol TV will also be added.
