The Latvian cable operator IZZI plans to invest €10 million by the end of this year on upgrading its infrastructure and developing new services.

It has also set itself the goal of having a modern telecommunications network in place in the capital, Riga, by 2012.

IZZI already has a 400km-long fibre-optic network in the city.

IZZI in addition plans to launch a new service named IZZI Prime this July that will effectively be a home telecommunications network.

IZZI is one of the largest cable operators in Latvia, its nearest rival being Baltkom, which underwent a change of ownership in May.

The two were expected to merge earlier this year but failed to reach an agreement.
